Maggie let everyone  touch , hold or feed her bunny. She demonstrated how to hold her favorite pet correctly and instructed us never to pet the bunny while she’s eating! Thank you for sharing Miss Sally with us . We are all hoping that she returns for R week!
Caleb brought his baby sister, Emma for Show and Tell.  Emma was dressed up for the special visit. Caleb was proud to have his Emma entertain the class. The children really enjoyed it when Emma played ball with his friends. She was the prettiest little show and tell ever!
The Fire Fighters and the EMT Squad from Manoa visited Trinity with an ambulance and a fire truck on a very rainy morning. The Good Lord gave us a break from the rain when the vehicles arrived so the children were able to climb on board! One little preschooler,Melia, was so surprised to see  her dad on the truck and  in a uniform! She was very proud and had a photo shoot with him. Firefighter Joe carefully dressed in his fire pants and jacket. He then covered his head with a sock hat and put the very heavy helmet on. The Best part of the presentation was the mask with air. He sounded a little like “Darth Vader”, but then quickly began to give Hi Fives to the group to show how friendly he was.   The EMT was a former Nursery School teacher and knew how to captivate her audience.  She gave great instructions on the equipment and the apparatus she uses when people need help. She had a few children practice being the patients, and even more children practice being the EMT! Officer Ron stopped by in a police car to see if we needed help. October was quit a busy month!  We reviewed the letters C by making Handy Candy Corn!  We also dotted the letter D,  made our own “Elmer” the Elephant , made Fireman Badges for the letter F, and made ghost prints using our feet for the letter F and G.
For our Famous Artist we made Claude Monet “Crythanisims” by painting with Kosh balls!  So much fun when they squished through our fingers!   We also made our own version of Edvard Munch “Scream” by making scary Ghost sculptures for the letter G!
Black and Orange where the color this month.  We painted Black Spiders!  Hope they didn’t scare you hanging from the ceiling!  The children loved mixing yellow and red paint to make Orange!  Then we painted terracotta pots to look like little pumpkins!  And we made funny faces on paper pumpkins!
For Math we have been counting 5 little pumpkins!  We measured ourselves using Twizzlers!!  So much fun and delicious too!  and we worked on patterns with pumpkins and ghosts.
For Science we cut open a pumpkin and studied what was inside.  Some guessed there was candy inside, but all we found was seeds and pulp.  Then we made our own real Jack-O-lantern!  We made up a silly story on how a pumpkin became a Jack- O-lantern.  We used our scissors to make pumpkin lanterns.  And we also learned the difference between solids and liquids by making Goop with corn starch and water.  It was fun digging our bugs, worms, and snakes our of our goop!
We learned about Autumn and how leaves change color.  Thank you to all the students who brought in colorful leaves to share with the class!  We marble painted our own leaves using marbles which we have hanging on our tree.
We had a visit from the Manoa Fire Company!  It was so much fun pretending to take a ride on the fire truck!  We learned all about fire safety and not to be scared of the firemen because they are here to help us.  We learned Stop, Drop, and Roll!  And thank you for counting all our fire alarms in your houses!  I have 4!!
Our Friday class made beautiful leaf rubbings!  Sailed the ocean blue with Christopher Columbus,  celebrated Picasso’s birthday by making a picture of a dove which is hanging in our hallway, We cut out different eyes, nose, and mouths and made silly looking pumpkins.  We made glittery ghosts and made delicious spider cookies!
Finally we had a great Halloween Party!!!  All the kids looked Spooktacular!!!  Thank you to all the parents who brought in special treats for us!  We had fun parading around, playing games, and most of all singing our Halloween songs for all of our friends and family!!
Happy Birthday to Brian, Emma, Marisa, and Gianna!!
5 day transitional…..Mrs. Degnan, Mrs. K and Ms. Moira
We began October celebrating Pablo Picasso’s birthday.  The class made a beautiful rendition of The Mask using pastels .
The results were absolutely perfect and I was so proud of how hard they worked on this project.
Our class made chocolate cupcakes for ‘C’ week.  They enjoyed eating them even without the icing!  We also played ‘crab soccer’ in class to go with our C theme!
For ‘D’ week we had  Disney Day.  Everyone brought in a favorite Disney item for show and tell and enjoyed playing with each others toys.
Christopher Columbus was celebrated learning about the three ships.  Each student named their own ship they made in class.
The Fire Company came to Trinity to share their expertise in preventing fires and teaching us safety during Fire Prevention week. Our class did exercises along with Mrs. Degnan to prepare our bodies for the obstacle course in the social hall.  Each student had to crawl over and under chairs and boxes to learn how the fire fighters do in real emergencies. They also practiced calling 9-1-1 and play pretending that they needed help. There were many laughs but also serious learning going on.
The class made many fun fall crafts this month from owls and leaves to pumpkins and mummies!
The boys and girls also learned how to do a ‘glyph’ using the pumpkin theme.  They all did a great job with this project.
We made pumpkin spread and ate it on bread. A few students really enjoyed the taste, but a few were not big fans of pumpkin!
We made the color orange using red and yellow paint. The boys and girls made pumpkins to add to our pumpkin patch in the hallway!
Mummies were made from tearing up pieces of paper towels to make it look realistic.
We picked out our favorite trick or treat candy and prepared our song Witches Brew for our big Halloween celebration!
Costumes are always a huge excitement for our class.  We played games at our party and ate wonderful snacks and treats.
Letter writing and number writing is coming along nicely. The class loves telling words that begin with the letter of the week. They are also fantastic with Thursday Dictionary Game…wow!  Name printing continues with practicing the lower case letters, which is a new concept for many of them!
Thank you to the parents who  generously provided pumpkins for our class room.  Also to the parents who provided our wonderful party treats. We really appreciate all that you do for us.
Weather is growing chilly, but we will still go outside, so be prepared with gloves and/or hats as needed!
Kindergarten Enrichment…………Mrs.Riehs
We are continuing our letter sounds each day. Sometimes we use pictures from an alphabet puzzle or flash cards to identify the sounds. This month we completed the vowel letters  “O” and “U” and then reviewed all the vowel letter sounds with a song. We also covered the letters “B” and “C”.
In our USA map study we’ve completed all of the eastern states from Florida to Maine. We also jumped down and colored Texas.  Everyone wanted to do Texas!  Then we went back to Pennsylvania and started moving west thru Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
We are continuing to work on increasing our recognition of sight words.  In addition to a number of two letter words, and all the “at” words, the children also can recognize all the main color words and the number words from one to ten.
We have been reviewing the correct formation of numbers and are beginning simple addition problems.
Everyone painted a Halloween magnet, (a scarecrow, cat or pumpkin) and completed a “Halloween Magic” sequence story.  In addition we completed a skeleton puzzle, read “Dem Bones” and also several other stories to put us in the Halloween spirit.       Happy Halloween Everyone!
Happy 6th Birthday to Samantha and Charlie!
4-Day Pre-K  .   .   .   .   .   .  .   .  Jeanne Riehs & Mary Jo Stolz

October was the month we learned about Autumn and how the trees change colors.  We also put together a great scarecrow picture. This month we celebrated Pablo Picasso’s Birthday with our creation of his famous picture “The Rooster”.
To prepare for Halloween, we sponge painted a paper pumpkin and then added a jack-o-lantern face to it. We also painted a pumpkin magnet with google eyes.  Then we designed a ghost scene, a witch scene, and a pumpkin patch picture with Halloween sponges. We made “funny face” pictures with cutouts from magazines and designed a cute Halloween card with stickers.  We also completed a “Spider” booklet. Just ask us how many legs a spider has and what they like to eat.
This month, we met the letters C, D, E, and F. For “C” week we made colorful caterpillars. We learned the secret of knocking down dominoes for “D” week.  For “E” week, we talked about elephants and eagles. We had a funny “F” week playing a “feelings” game where we had to guess what was in a bag by just feeling it.
We had some great Show & Tells this month. To name just a few, there was Brendan M’s silver dollar, Annie’s barking toy puppy dog, and Jack B’s colorful rock collection, but the best of all was Maggie’s live rabbit, Sally.
For science this month, we learned how pumpkins grow on vines.  We found out that pumpkins, like people, come in different sizes and shapes. We made a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern but first had to clean out all the seeds. The pumpkin seeds sure were slimy to touch.
Our Halloween Party costumes were terrific, and our treats were yummy. Even Mrs. Santa Claus came to our party. A big thank you to all the Moms who helped with the project cuttings this month and also those who sent in special favors or treats for Halloween.  You all deserve a hug !

3 day Pre-K   Mrs. Tustin and Mrs. Gross
Our class is moving along very nicely.  The season of Fall and the month of October brought many fun art projects to our room.  Our Haunted Wall inside our room is filled with bright orange Jack-o-Lanterns, Footprint Ghosts, silly Gargoyles, Black Cats and beautifully colored Fall leaves.  We’ve learned the sounds of the letters D through G and the value of the numbers 1 through 5.  We are working very hard to learn to print our names properly.  The Name Club will be starting soon!!  We are also learning about shapes, patterns and opposites.  We learned about Pablo Picasso and even recreated one of his famous paintings.  It was so much fun to hear about Christopher Columbus and his three ships – The Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria!  Our Science Day was very exciting.  First, in honor of “National Pretzel Month,” we mixed and baked our own soft pretzels for snack.  Mmm…they were delicious.  Then, we experimented with red, blue and yellow water – mixing and making lots of other colors.  And last, we puts stalks of celery in some water with red and blue food coloring and saw how the red and blue “ran up” to the top of the stalk.  This month, we had a visit from the Manoa Fire Company (thank you Andrew)  and got to go into an ambulance and a fire truck.  And finally, there was Halloween Day!  It’s one of our favorite holidays.  Everyone looked great in their costumes.  Even though we couldn’t have our parade outside, our family and friends stayed in our room to hear a few of our Halloween poems and then we an awesome party in our classroom.  We also went on a “Ghost Hunt” and found paper ghosts with a little prize attached.  We had fun wrapping Mrs. Gross up like a mummy and then making our own paper mummies.  Thanks to all of the parents who provided the treats and paper products for our celebration.  We also want to thank everyone for sending in such great objects for the Beginning Sounds Box on Wednesdays – we really do get lots of fun and different things.  We’re all looking forward to November and the Pilgrims, Indians, Turkeys and our Thanksgiving Feast.
One more thank you – The Wet Ones are really helping to keep our classroom healthy!!!

3 day Pre-K   Mrs. Tustin and Mrs. Gross Our class is moving along very nicely. One more thank you – The Wet Ones are really helping to keep our classroom healthy!!!Happy 5th Birthday to Farrah!!
