Happy October…one of my favorite months! During October, we reviewed the letters C, D, E and F. We also talked about position words (first through fifth), counted by one’s and 10’s and added with candy corn, played games like Fall Matching, Ghost Bingo, Candyland, Dominoes and Musical Chairs, to name a few! We even built a catapult using popsicle sticks, a plastic spoon and rubber bands. We “flew” candy corn, Indian corn, candy pumpkins, pompoms, buttons, and a few other things. Everything went high up in the air, but the buttons went the farthest! We learned about Fall, Halloween, Owls, Candy Corn and Pumpkins! It is Fire Prevention Month and the Manoa Fire Department visited Trinity and we got to go into a real fire truck! Our “special” classes are so much fun…Gym with Miss Kim on Mondays, Music with Miss Tami on Tuesdays, Yoga with Miss Tami on Wednesdays, and Geography with Miss Sheri on Fridays! We’ve been reading a lot of books about Fall and Halloween! Speaking of Halloween…we had a great time during the Halloween Parade!
Happy 6th Birthday to Mia M!
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week…Brendan, Mia M, Liam and Claire!

3 day pre k…………Miss Kim and Miss Moira

Well, Fall is in full swing. We talked about all the things that Fall will bring us, like cooler temperatures, shorter days and colorful leaves. We recited Fall poems and sang some Fall songs. We even did a Scarecrow dance that we love to do everyday at circle time. We began the season of Fall by sponge painting big leaves and creating over- sized candy corn people that are hanging from our ceiling.

October was a very busy month for us! We had lots of fun learning all our new letters of the alphabet. We started off by learning about the letter “Cc”. “C” was for cats and cookies. We made a cute little cat out of the letter “C”. We baked YUMMY chocolate chip cookies and took turns stirring and mixing the cookie dough. We had such a fun time being “little bakers”. “Dd” week brought us dogs and dots. We made a Dalmatian Dog out of the letter “D”. “Ee” week brought us elephants and things we like to EAT. “Ff” week brought us foxes, Five Senses and Fire Safety. We learned how to Stop, Drop and Roll. “Gg” week was for gum ball machines and gum balls. We made a giraffe out of the letter “G”.

Of course the alphabet isn’t the only thing we learned about in Pre-K. We had so much fun learning, writing and tracing our numbers too! We talked about Christopher Columbus and how he discovered America. We wore pink and had an awesome time at our Dance Party with Miss Michele and all our friends at Trinity. We also talked about the famous artist PICASSO. We watercolored portraits that are hanging down the hall from our classroom. We had a special visit from the Fire Company. We got to go on a real fire truck and Andrew Payne’s dad showed us all of his equipment. We really enjoyed meeting the firefighters.

In addition, we are working hard on writing our first name. Also, we are working independently this month too! We traced our letters with markers, we matched up magnetic alphabet letters, played with Play doh, puzzles and practiced cutting with scissors.

Last, but not least, this month of October brought us Halloween! We loved getting ready for Halloween in our classroom. We made silly monsters, pumpkin puppets, puffy ghosts and colored creatures. The highlight of celebrating Halloween in our school was our Halloween party, where we played games, made a witch’s brew and enjoyed delicious treats! Thank you for all the donations to help the kids celebrate this fun day!

Thank you to all of the parents who have donated items to our class and to our wonderful Mystery Readers this month! The children get so excited and love listening to you read to our class!

Happy Birthday to Andrew and Evelyn this month. We hope you enjoyed your special day!

We are looking forward to all the fun we will have with Thanksgiving next month!

Kindergarten Enrichment…..Mrs. Billbrough & Miss Aimee
October theme was Halloween
We have been working on number identification and simple addition and counting with different items such as candy, pumpkins, and rolling dice games. We learned all about pumpkins. How a pumpkin grows and estimates how tall our pumpkin was and how much it weighted.
We have been playing lots of games with our word wall words. Our favorite is memory and candy land. We can read The Fat Cat after practicing our “at” words. We are starting to write sentences by seeing it, trace it, build it, draw it, and we write it.
We had a lot of fun exploring science! We made gummy worms dance in a jar with baking soda and vinegar. Experimented with slim and play dough and discussed what the differences where and what was the same. We learned all about spiders, parts of the body, how they spin a web, and how important they are. And we learned a funny song about spiders using rhyming words. Which the kids came up with some great rhymes! We also learned some facts about Bats. We found out that Bats are nocturnal, eat fruit and bugs, and have fur.
Hanging in our stairway, we painted scary trees in moonlight using oil pastels and tempera paint, and made scary cats with chalk pastels for Picasso.
We used our engineering skills making a 3-D ghost with recycled paper. We listened to everyone’s ideas and then we came up with a plan. We assembled paper chains together and strung them together. They looked so scary hanging in the hallway! It was nice to see all the children work together.
We are having fun in geography with Miss Sherry learning about different countries, we love gym class with Miss Kim who has us playing lots of fun games, and Zumba! And Music with Miss Michele! So much fun watching all the kids dances around!
Thank you for sharing your children with us. Looking forward to all the adventures we will be having in November!

Happy Birthday to Picasso! We made our own version of “Cubist College” by practicing our scissor skills to cut out pumpkins, then cut the pumpkin into smaller pieces and glued them back together. We made our own version of Edvard Munch “Scream” by making scary Ghost sculptures for the letter G!
The color this month was Black and Orange. We painted Black Cats with spooky eyes and orange Pumpkins. The children loved mixing yellow and red paint to make Orange! Then we painted terracotta pots to look like little pumpkins! And we made funny faces on paper pumpkins!
For Math we have been counting 5 little pumpkins, matching 1-5 on scarecrows, playing I spy a number during circle time and we worked on patterns with pumpkins, ghosts, and spiders.
For Science we cut open a pumpkin and studied what was inside. Some guessed there was candy inside, but all we found was seeds and pulp. Then we made our own real Jack-O-lantern! We made up a silly story on how a pumpkin became a Jack- O-lantern. We used scissors to make pumpkin lanterns. And we also learned the difference between solids and liquids by making Goop with corn starch and water. It was fun digging our bugs, worms, and snakes our of our goop!

Our Trinity school wore pink to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. Thanks to all who donated their $1.00 to go toward this special fund.

The Manoa Fire Company came to Trinity to share their expertise in preventing fires and safety tips during Fire Prevention Week. The class enjoyed climbing into the huge fire truck and seeing all the parts to the truck.

Our class made many fun fall crafts this moth. Pumpkins, spiders, witches and mummies were everywhere. We learned to make the color orange using red and yellow paint. The students made pumpkins to add to our huge pumpkin patch filled with many different types of pumpkins.

We learned about the inside of pumpkins and how they grow. Thanks to Jenna’s mom for bringing in 2 big pumpkins, we were able to see how big they can get. Mrs. Degnan cut open one of the pumpkins so we could see, touch and smell the inside! They also planted a pumpkin seed of their very own. Hopefully they will grow into huge plants! The other pumpkin the class hammered golf tees into designs, making a very special Halloween pumpkin for our class!!!

Weather will be getting chilly, but we still go outside. Please have your child prepared for outside play on days they will need hats and gloves. It is also time to start practicing zipping our ‘own’ jackets! We will have a zipper day contest in January, so it’s not too soon to practice!

Thank you to all the parents who have donated items for our class. We really appreciate the play dough, boxes of tissues, water, and hand wipes !
